"Originally published in 2002 under the title, Educational Policy Studies: A Practical Approach, this book is a second edition under a new title, Education Policy: Bridging the Divide Between Theory and Practice. The title was changed to more accurately reflect its content. This publication is a "primer" on all things related to education policy. Most texts on this subject discuss policy from a macro perspective; this text takes a more micro approach. Specifically, the subject is broken down into a number of manageable sub-topics, such as definition, values and principles, types, policy analysis, policy development, policy implementation, and policy evaluation. Various texts on policy often assume the reader's knowledge and understanding of these basic concepts, sometimes resulting in the reader becoming overwhelmed with the material as it deals with the "big picture" of policy, with passing reference to specific policy initiatives. The approach taken in book is a pragmatic, realistic one, stemming from the author's work experience in the public school system as a teacher and a principal. A new chapter on a research study which examines the challenges and concerns in developing and implementing education policy has been added in this 2nd edition.
