Summary: | Tarkanian entered the University System Administration offices at 1:30 p.m. and emerged about 6:30 p.m. with attorneys Chuck Thompson, Alan Jones and Alton Burkhalter. When asked of his job status, Tarkanian said only, "No change." He would not say whether a buyout of his contract was discussed, only that he was happy with the way the meeting went. Even Las Vegas regent Lonnie Hammargren, a noted Tarkanian backer, was quiet. Hammargren said only that he still believed there was an orchestrated attempt going on to oust Tarkanian, but, like most regents and university officials, declined comment while citing a state law that prohibits comment about personnel matters. Earlier in the day, former Rebel players held a news conference in the UNLV basketball offices to show support for Tarkanian. Speaking were Gary Graham, David Rice, Armon Gilliam, Greg Goorjian, [Sidney Green], [Paul Brozovich] and Larry Anderson. Both Green and Gilliam tried to address the regents' meeting, but were denied the chance and sat in an air-conditioned Mercedes most of the afternoon. |
