Summary: | District Judge [Donald Mosley], saying the Rebel players had no legal right to participate in the NCAA basketball tournament, denied a request Wednesday by the players for a preliminary injunction to block NCAA sanctions. In a decision Mosley later called one of the most difficult of his career, the judge ruled the NCAA had unfairly punished the Rebel players for allegations dating back to the mid-1970s, but agreed with counsel for the NCAA and UNLV that the players still had no legal recourse. Chuck Thompson, who technically was on the defendants' side as an attorney for [Jerry Tarkanian], said Tarkanian offered not to coach the team in this year's tournament because he felt he was the object of the NCAA's penalty. Thompson also blasted the NCAA. |
