| Summary: | The upper Brahmaputra valley in Assam has rich natural resources in different layers, which can be assessed by two types of remote sensing data: The satellite imageries help understand surface processes and landform variabilities can be subjected to inferential reasoning to structural elements, which control the habitats of oil, water, and minerals. Geophysical data are the product of the second kind of subsurface remote sensing. We have highlighted in this section some of the lesser discussed issues like gold mining, which has a long historical background. However, in the last one and a half century, changed policy matters not only reduced the scope but also the subject was treated as a closed chapter. The scope for alternative energy sources like solar and wind energies was given quick coverage. Immediate challenges before the hydrocarbon exploration were highlighted. |
