PURPOSE: To obtain the subject topically applicable composition synergistically improved in photoprotective effect on UV irradiation, particularly solar radiation, and suitable for topical use for enhanced photoprotection of human skin and/or hair by including specific mutually different kinds of screening agents in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle in a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION: This composition comprises (A) optionally, partially or totally neutralized benzene 1,4-di(3-methylidene-10-camphorsulfonic)acid e.g. a compound of formula I [A is H, an alkali metal, a group of the formula: NH(R)3 <+> (R is H, a 1-4C alkyl, etc.,)] and (B) 2ethylhexyl α-cyano-β,β-diphenylacrylate of formula II ( is phenyl) as screening agents in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle in the form of an oil-in-water type emulsion, etc. The ingredients A and B are compounded in such a ratio that the ingredients A and B produces a synergistic activity (e.g. in a B/A weight ratio of 0.25-8).
