PURPOSE: To obtain the subject topically applicable composition excellent in cosmetic properties and in photoprotective force against UV irradiation, particularly solar radiation, and suitable for topical use for enhanced photoprotection of human skin and/or hair by including a specific photoprotective system and a polymer in a specific vehicle. CONSTITUTION: This composition comprises (A) a photoprotective system capable of screening UV irradiation, namely an organic sunscreen agent or an inorganic (fine) pigment, such as titanium dioxide, capable of physically screening radiations, and (B) a polymer comprising units of formula I (R1 , R2 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl), units of formula II R5 is CH3 CO, R6 -(OC2 H5 )b [R6 is a 2-20C alkyl; (b) is 1-20]; (a) is 0, 1} and units of formula Ill (R3 , R4 are each R1 ) or the polymer of formula I (R2a , R4 are each simultaneously not H, when the units of formula II is lacked), in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle comprising a continuous aqueous phase such as an oil-in-water type emulsion.
