PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of retrieving an image as intended by a user of a distribution destination and a user of a distribution source device.SOLUTION: An image retrieval device includes: management means which manages subjects of images retained by the image retrieval device and a user of a distribution destination device by categories; reception means which receives information on the user of the distribution destination device and information on the requested subject from the distribution destination device; distribution destination user category determination means which determines a distribution destination user category to which the user of the distribution destination device belongs on the basis of the information on the user; subject category determination means which determines a subject category to which the subject requested by the distribution destination device belongs on the basis of the information on the subject; retrieval condition determination means which determines the retrieval condition of the image on the basis of the result obtained by comparing the distribution destination user category and the subject category; and image retrieval means which retrieves the image with the retrieval condition determined by the retrieval condition determination means. 【課題】配信先のユーザと配信元装置のユーザの双方の意図に沿った画像を検索することができる技術を実現する。【解決手段】画像検索装置が保有している画像の被写体と配信先装置のユーザをそれぞれカテゴリで管理する管理手段と、前記配信先装置から当該配信先装置のユーザに関する情報と要求された被写体に関する情報を受信する受信手段と、前記ユーザに関する情報に基づいて、前記配信先装置のユーザが属している配信先ユーザカテゴリを判定する配信先ユーザカテゴリ判定手段と、前記被写体に関する情報に基づいて、前記配信先装置から要求された被写体が属している被写体カテゴリを判定する被写体カテゴリ判定手段と、前記配信先ユーザカテゴリと前記被写体カテゴリとを比較した結果に基づいて、画像の検索条件を決定する検索条件決定手段と、前記検索条件決定手段により決定された検索条件で画像を検索する画像検索手段と、を有する。【選択図】図６
