Procedure for inertization treatment of ash from solid waste and other materials subjected to thermal processes. It involves separating the ions of the heavy metals present in the ash by selective precipitation of said ions in the form of metal sulphides. These sulphides then undergo a roasting process and subsequent reduction with carbon, the metals being obtained in the elemental state and inactive. The remainder of the components are treated with sulphuric acid and sodium sulphate, and gypsum and/or calcium carbonate is/are obtained that are free of heavy metals and other contaminants sensitive to the metals and reagents used in the procedure. The invention is applicable to ash produced in the incineration of solid waste or in any process which involves thermal destruction or combustion reactions.
