Summary: | The bottom-nozzle plate (46) is of substantially solid configuration with cut-out regions (50) formed therein at locations which are above and in direct alignment with the coolant inlet holes (52) of the lower core plate (14) when the fuel assembly including the debris-resistant bottom nozzle is seated thereon. Each cut-out region (50) has thereacross an open criss-cross structure (54) defining a plurality of openings each of which has a cross-sectional dimension such as to filter out coolantborne debris too large to freely pass through the unoccupied spaces in the fuel assembly's lowermost support grid supporting fuel rods, yet to pass debris small enough to freely pass also through the unoccupied spaces of the lowermost grid. |
