The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for measuring structural characteristics of an object. The object is subjected to an energy application process and provides an objective quantitative measurement of structural characteristics of the object. The system may include a device, such as a percussion instrument, that can be reproducibly placed on a subject undergoing such measurements for reproducible positioning.
