Summary:Disclosed is a novel ICP-MS ion transfer method capable of generating and transporting high yields of positive and negative ions, capable of quenching unwanted metastable state ions and neutral particles when using existing ICP torches. Dopants are added in various pressure regions of the mass spectrometer interface, wherein the reaction time is suitable for the occurrence of a gas phase ion/molecule reaction. Introduction of dopants or analytes in the provided RF confinement field generates high yields of negative ions in various pressure regions of the mass spectrometer.
