| Summary: | The invention provides a method for preparing 3-methylpyridine. The method includes adding a rare earth catalyst into a tubular reactor filled with molecular sieve, respectively heating 2-methylpyrrolidine, trichloromethane and water vapor to 160-200 DEG C, mixing the heated 2-methylpyrrolidine, the heated trichloromethane and the heated water vapor in a specific ratio, feeding nitrogen for dilution prior to pressurization, feeding a diluted mixed gas into the tubular reactor, separating through a cooling tower and rectifying so as to obtain the 3-methylpyridine and the 2-methylpyrrolidine. The method has the advantages of easily available raw materials, short reaction route, simplicity and convenience in operation, high product yield, reusability of the rare earth catalyst after activating treatment and lower production cost, thereby being high in industrialized mass production application value.
