The invention relates to an online measurement method for the effective cutting depth of plane grinding. The online measurement method comprises the steps that firstly, an acoustic emission sensor is installed in a machining area of a machine tool, and an acoustic emission signal value of the stable state of plane grinding is measured; secondly, a system time constant is worked out according to the index downtrend of an acoustic emission signal; and finally, the ratio of the effective cutting depth quantity to the elastic receding quantity of a grinding wheel is derived, and the grinding critical time and the effective cutting depth of a workpiece are calculated.
