Summary:The article focuses on the relationship between religion and work. Using the lived religion framework and referring to the results of qualitative research, it shows how educated religiously engaged metropolitan Roman Catholic women in Poland negotiate the presence of religion in work environment and how they see its role in their professional activity. The analysis includes an intrapersonal perspective, related to the meanings attributed to work, perceiving it as a source of support and agency. It also reflects on an interpersonal perspective, referring to relationships with co-workers. It shows that, although at the discursive level the Catholic women do not openly question the secular nature of the workplace, in practice the division between the religious and the secular is challenged and both dimensions are redefined. The presence of religion in work environment, more than as a certain status quo, can therefore be interpreted as a contextualised process of making religion visible and invisible.
