| Summary: | In this chapter strategies for controlling neuronal communication and behavior from a theoretical neuroscience perspective are discussed. The main motivation for controlling neuronal networks is to slow down, halt or reverse mental diseases like senile dementia and Alzheimer’s disease (AD (a list of acronyms most used in this chapter is provided in Table 1)), as well as other mental diseases that reduce quality of life. The concept of neuronal networks used in this chapter denotes a group of interconnected biological neurons and must be distinguished from the concepts of neural networks (group of interconnected nerves) and artificial neural networks (group of interconnected “neurons” used in computer science). |
