Summary:With the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), connected devices are rapidly penetrating into every aspect of our daily life. Thus, IoT is considered as a key building block for the agri-food supply chain due to its pervasiveness, interoperability, and scalability. In this chapter, we first review IoT and blockchain-based agri-food supply chains and then identify the key building blocks for this type of system. We put the emphasis on core components of IoT and blockchain, as the former lays the foundation for data collection and transmissions, while the latter paves the way for the data transparency and integrity, and more importantly, it lowers the financing cost for all participants of the supply chain.
