Summary: | The first stage of press forging design is the selection of an initial workpiece, which strongly influences the total metal consumption of a forging and the complexity of its production. During press forging, cut-to-length blanks with circular, square or other cross-section, as well as blanks cut from rolled products or ingots, are usually used as initial workpieces. The work discusses a methodology for solving the weakly structured problem of selecting the initial cut-to- length blanks and rolled blanks from the enterprise nomenclature. The chosen workpieces are used for manufacturing solid forgings, which have a form of bodies of rotation with an elongated axis. The main forging operation of their production is broaching. Based on the technological restrictions imposed on the forging process, the rules for selecting initial workpieces in the presence or absence of preliminary forging operations are formalized. The described methodology of selecting workpieces can be used for forging large forgings, when initial workpieces are ingots, as well as for selecting workpieces for other classes of forgings. |
