Summary:Explores commissions by Pope Gregory XIII for works in the Vatican Palace, including the renovation and decoration of earlier rooms, and the addition of new architectural spaces. Focuses on the history, function, and decoration of two little known rooms called both the "sale dei paramenti" (rooms of the paraments) and also "camere e anticamera del Concistoro Segreto" that Gregory commissioned in the medieval (late 13th-c.) part of the palace, and studies the artists and iconography of the late 16th-c. the mural decoration (fresco and canvas painting with Old and New Testament subjects) and ornament (begun 1576) of these rooms. Artists documented as involved include Lorenzo and Mario Sabatini, Girolamo Muziano, and Marco da Faenza.
