Summary:The present study discusses the potential feasibility of protein-based computing circuits consisting of photon-coupled, photoswitchable protein molecules, driven by appropriate photon pulses. According to our considerations, the proposed architectures may be promising possible building blocks in nanoscale, terahertz-frequency computing processors of the future with low energy consumption and dissipation. The operational principle takes advantage of the experimentally demonstrated switching mechanism of photoswitchable proteins.
