| Summary: | This study investigates the semantic properties of reduplication from the perspective of iconicity and establishes its system. There are two major challenges in classifying Korean reduplications. First, the reduplication system based on phonological criteria does not match the one based on morphological criteria. Second, words within the same category are not homogeneous. To establish a more explanatory system, reduplicative words were analyzed in relation to the number category. The results demonstrate that iconicity maintains consistent relationships with the phonological, morphological, and numerical meanings of reduplication. Furthermore, the most iconic forms are distributive and their constituents show clear lexical meaning, while the least iconic forms have group reading with vague meanings. KCI Citation Count: 0 |
