史적 언어에 대한 私적인 서사 - 『프랑스어 역사 사전』에 대하여

본 논문에서 살펴볼 『프랑스어 역사 사전』(초판 1992)은 어원사전 또는 언어 역사 사전의 개념과 통시 사전의 기술 방법론에 매우 큰 변화를 가져온 사전이다. 단어의 어원소에서부터 그 생성, 발전, 소멸의 흐름을 실증적으로 ‘증명’하는 것이 통시 사전의 소명이라면 이에 덧붙여 그 안에 축적되어 있는 문화적 두께를 독자로 하여금 연속성과 시간성이라는 배경하에 ‘이해’하게끔 하는 것이 본 사전의 목표이다. 이를 위해 ‘이야기’라는 수사학적 선택과 사전적 표지 및 약물의 간 소화, 어원의 유형화 등의 작업을 진행한다. 본고에서는 『프랑스어 역사 사전』이 추구하는 다의의 연속적 이해와 의미 변화의 비자의성과 같은 개념이 사전 속에 서 어떻게 구현되는지 살펴보고자 한다. 일반 언어사전에 등장하는 의미 번호를 배제하고 간단한 약물로 다의의 생성, 소멸 과정을 표상하며, 의미의 예측 가능성이나 선행 연구의 신뢰도에 따라 의미 파생 과정을 구분한다. 본 사전을 말할 때 저자인 알랭 레이를 언급하지 않을 수 없다. 어원과 그 변화 과정에 대한 엄격하고 학문적인 기준은 가장 대중적이고도 인간적인 문체를 통해서 전달되고 있는데, 이것은 본 사전의 특징이자 저자 레이의 모습이라고 하겠다. The Historical Dictionnary of French Language (first edition 1992), is a dictionary which has profoundly modified the concept of dictionaries of etymology or linguistic history as well as the descriptive methodology of diachronic dictionaries. If the aim of the diachronic dictionary is to empirically prove the life-cycle of a word from the etymological elements, in addition to this, the dictionary must make understand the cultural thickness that has accumulated in language by means of continuity and temporality. For this, Alain Rey chooses the rhetorical asset of "story", the simplification of conventional signs in the dictionary and the new categorization of types of etymons. In this article, we will examine how the concept of contiguous understanding of polysemy and the non-arbitrariness of meaning change is implemented in this dictionary. Excluding all numbering systeme of the general language dictionary, it represents meaning life-cycle with only simple signs, and markers for semantic derivation are classified according to predictability of meaning evolution and reliability of refrences. By referring to this dictionary, one cannot help but mention the author, Alain Ray. Strict and academic standards for the etymology are delivered by the most popular and human style, which is a hallmark of this dictionary and its author Ray himself. KCI Citation Count: 0
