Summary:Objectives: This study was conducted on 173 students attending the Department of Dental Hygiene at a university located in the K region. This study recognizes the importance of individual learning performance and study the relationship between self-directed learning ability, learning flow, and class participation, which are factors that can influence it. Methods: Self-directed learning ability, learning flow, and class participation according to general characteristics were tested using t-test and one-way ANOVA. Pearson's correlation coefficient was performed to determine the correlation between self-directed learning ability, learning flow, and class participation. Results: There was a significant positive correlation between learning ability and learning flow(r=.710, p<0.001). Additionally, there was a significant positive correlation between learning ability and class participation (r=.660, p<0.001), and learning flow and class participation (r=.638, p<0.001). Conclusions: In dental hygiene education, it is believed that measures to improve individual learning ability should be proposed by identifying the relationship between self-directed learning ability, learning flow, and class participation, which are major variables that can affect the learning performance of dental hygiene students.
