도덕적 다원주의에 입각한 환경윤리 이론의 통합

이성을 지닌 인간만을 내재적 가치의 담지자로 보는 인간중심주의로부터 생태계 전체의 균형과 조화를 강조하는 생태중심주의에 이르기까지 여러 환경윤리 이론은 저마다 자기 이론 체계의 타당성을 내세운다. 그런데 하나의 이론이 내세우는 이론 체계를 철저히 추종하면 다른 환경윤리 이론의 타당성을 부정하게 된다. 환경윤리 이론의 난립은 윤리적 합의점 도출을 어렵게 만들고 기후 변화 등 환경 위기 상황에서 윤리적 해결방안과 그 근거의 탐색을 어렵게 만든다. 하나의 가치나 한 가지 이론 체계만을 통해 도덕적 행위를 요청하는 도덕적 일원주의에 입각한다면 우리는 환경윤리 이론 중 가장 타당하다고 생각하는 한 가지만을 취하고 다른 모든 이론은 버려야 할 것이다. 그러나 그러한 편향적 방법을 지양하고 이 연구는 다양한 가치와 이론의 타당성을 인정하면서도 공통적 가치를 통한 조화와 공존을 강조하는 도덕적 다원주의에 입각하여 다양한 환경윤리 이론을 통합하는 방법을 모색해 보고자 한다. From anthropocentrism, which sees only rational human beings as bearers of intrinsic value, to ecocentrism, which emphasizes the balance and harmony of the entire ecosystem, various environmental ethics theories claim the validity of their own theoretical systems. However, if one theory's theoretical system is strictly followed, it negates the validity of other environmental ethics theories. This makes it difficult to reach an ethical consensus and to find ethical solutions and rationales for environmental crises such as climate change. If we were to adopt moral monism, which requires moral behavior to be guided by only one value or one theoretical system, we would have to take the one environmental ethics theory that we find most valid and discard all others. However, avoiding such a one-sided approach, this study seeks to find a way to integrate various environmental ethics theories based on moral pluralism, which recognizes the validity of different values and theories but emphasizes harmony and coexistence through common values.
