길선주(吉善宙)와 스왈런(William L. Swallen)의 삼계론(三界論) 비교분석

본고는 길선주(吉善宙)와 스왈런(William L. Swallen)의 ‘삼계론’(三界論)을 비교분석하려는 데 목적이 있다. 본 연구자는 이들의 삼계론 사상에 나타난 의미심장한 논증들과 논점들 대하여 다음과 같이 숙고했다. 첫째, 길선주가 평양신학교 재학 시절 스왈런에게서 요한계시록 강의를 들었고 그의 삼계론이 스왈런의 삼계론 사상에 기초되어 있다는 점을 밝혔다. 둘째, 거시적인 틀에서 길선주의 삼계론에 나타난 세 처소들로서 불현계(不現界)의 ‘새 예루살렘’, 지상의 ‘무궁안식세계’, 가장 고통스런 처소로서의 ‘지옥’ 등에 관하여 분석했다. 셋째, 스왈런의 삼계론 논증에 진술된 세 처소들로서 지상에 인접한 ‘새 예루살렘’, 지상의 ‘무궁안식세계’, 가장 비참한 처소로서의 ‘지옥’ 등을 중심으로 고찰했다. 넷째, 본 논문에서 고찰한 주요 논지들을 염두에 두어 종말의식 고취, 게쉬히테로서의 역사적 의미, 복음전파와 민족복음화의 사명 등 오늘날 한국기독교인들이 실천해야 할 과업들을 제언했다. 길선주와 스왈런의 신학사상에 비추어 추후 이들의 논지와 관련된 담론들을 외연(外延)하여 이삼계론 주제 외에도 윤리관, 인간론, 구원론, 천년왕국론, 종말론 개요 등 다채로운 영역으로 담론이 확장되기를 바란다. This research aims to attempt comparative analysis of ‘Samgaeron’ between Seon-Ju Gil and William L. Swallen. I considered the meaningful points and demonstrations in their thoughts of Samgaeron as follows. I revealed Gil Seon-ju took a lecture on Revelation from Swallen when he was a student at Pyongyang Theological Seminary, and revealed that his Samgaeron is based on Swallen’s theory. Secondly, in macroscopic approach I analyzed the three boundaries in his Samgaeron such as ‘New Jerusalem’ as a world of ideas, ‘The World of Endless Rest’ on earth, ‘Hell’ as the most painful place, and so on. Thirdly, on the basis of Swallen’s Samgaeron argument I focused on ‘New Jerusalem’ adjacent to earth, ‘The World of Endless Rest’ on earth, ‘Hell’ as the most painful place, and so on. Fourthly, I suggest practical tasks to today’s Korean Christians on the basis of the main issues of this study such as raising a sense of apocalypse, historical meaning as a Geschichte, mission of evangelism and national evangelization, and so on. In the light of the theological thoughts of Seon-Ju Gil and William L. Swallen, I propose future extensions of these discourses into their other various themes such as the ethical view, anthropology, soteriology, millenarianism, apocalyptic overview, and other related fields.
