Summary:Filtration experiments are carried out separately for each filter media which are zeolite, volcanic rock, foam glass and polyethylene(PE) to evaluate thier water purification ability under the different circumstances. Each experiment is managed by factors of influent concentrations and flow directions. In the first experiment, pollutant concentrations of influents are given differently and flow directions are the same downward flow for all reactors. On the other hand, in second experiment, concentrations of influents are maintained at the same level but flow directions are opposite for each reactor. High and low concentration of influents are applied in first experiment, removal efficiencies of all filter media are usually high when influent concentration level is high except for T-P removal efficiency of volcanic rock and T-N removal efficiency of PE. Filtration ability when upward and downward inflow directions are applied to each reactor in the second experiment, the result shows that removal efficiency of SS is higher in up-flow condition than in down-flow condition but T-N removal efficiency of volcanic rocks and T-P removal efficiency of foam glass have been raised under the down-flow condition. Usually, most items of water quality show better removal efficiencies at the experiments that high concentration and up-flow direction is applied. Conclusion of this study, removal efficiencies of filter media are affected by directions and concentrations of influent. KCI Citation Count: 0
