Summary:Although first time and misdemeanor juvenile offenders occupies over half part of whole juvenile offenders and early interventions is important, appropriate treatment for them have not been performed. Therefore, lots of problems surrounding first-time and misdemeanor juvenile offenders have been presented. This study reviewed whether Teen Court Program could solve the problems. Teen Court Program could not be the perfect alternative because it involves its own problems such as disorganization, lacking of participation and awareness, etc. However, these are not unique problems applying only to Teen Court Program, but common matters also applying to other diversion programs. Additionally, even though teen court program cannot largely affect recidivism, first-time and misdemeanor offenders are able to have positive self-image and capability to understand others, learn life skills and how to solve the problems from conflict, understand the laws and legal systems, and to be sources providing needed services to the community. In this respect, it is worthwhile to review Teen Court Program as one of solutions for existing problems surrounding first-time and misdemeanor juvenile offenders. If peer pressure could entice juveniles to delinquency, it also could be the key to make them out of delinquency.
