A CASE OF PERCUTANEOUS SCREW FIXATION OF A PELVIC FRACTURE RESULTING IN A PSEUDOANEURYSM OF THE SUPERIOR GLUTEAL ARTERY CONTRALATERAL TO THE SCREW INSERTION

| Summary: | A man in his 70s was transported to our hospital via helicopter after becoming trapped under a tree he had been cutting down. After arrival at the hospital, contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a pelvic ring fracture. On day 3 after injury, percutaneous screw fixation of the pelvic ring fracture was performed from the right iliac bone to the left. On day 19, he was transferred to another medical facility. On day 102, he was transferred back to our hospital with complaints of pain and swelling of the left buttock. Angiography revealed the formation of a pseudoaneurysm in the left superior gluteal artery, which we suspected was a guide pin-induced injury. Arterial embolization was performed. Our findings suggest that the risk of injury to the superior gluteal artery on the opposite side of the screw insertion should be considered during screw fixation of pelvic fractures. |
