Summary: | 3, 4-dideoxykanamycin B is a new semisynthetic aminoglycosidic antibiotic derivated from Kanamycin B. Results of the fundamental studies on this drug reported that antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa is more excellent than the other aminoglycosidic antibiotics. This paper describes the clinical results of comparative double-blind test on 3, 4-dideoxykanamycin B (DKB) and Gentamicin sulfate (GM) in the treatment of acute supprative otitis media and acute tonsillitis. Satisfactory results were obtained in 48 patients of 65 in the DKB group (73.9%) and in 41 patients of 63 in the GM group (65.1%). Statistical analysis of the obtained results revealed that there was no significant difference between the two groups. Generally, the most noteworthy side effect of aminoglycosidic antibiotics is ototoxity. Therefore, the patients in this study were observed with special attention to this point. But no disturbance of inner ear was noted in the DKB group. From the above results, 3, 4-dideoxykanamycin B (DKB) can be an effective antibiotic comparative to Gentamicin. |
