Summary:L-105, a new semisynthetic cephem, was employed in the treatment of various infectious diseases encountered in the surgical field, and clinical efficacy of the drug was investigated. L-105 was administered to a total of 40 patients. One gram (0.5-2.0g) of L-105 was administered twice a day for 3-15 days by intravenous drip infusion. The patients who were subjects of evaluation of the efficacy of L-105 consisted of 19 cases of infection of skin and soft tissue, 14 cases of intraperitoneal infections (including perineal dead space infection after Miles' operation), 2 cases of biliary tract infection and 2 cases of urinary tract infection. The clinical results were excellent in 16 patients, good in 16, fair in 5, poor in 3 and the efficacy rate was 80%. Clinically, adverse effect was not recognized. Therefore, L-105 is thought to be a useful drug in the surgical field.
