Summary:This report describes a case of pleomorphic adenoma, which apparently arose in a heterotopic salivary gland located in the submandibular region. After the mass was resected, the patient healed satisfactory as outlined below. The patient was a 55-year-old man who visited our department in the hospital with chief complaint of a mass in the left submandibular region, which was not associated with pain. MRI imaging revealed a well-defined and isolated mass at the anterior portion of the left submandibular gland. Therefore, we performed surgery to remove the mass with the patient under general anesthesia. The entire mass was encapsulated and isolated from the submandibular gland. It was diagnosed as pleomorphic adenoma on histopathological examination. Clinical findings and histopathological examination suggested that the mass was a pleomorphic adenoma that originated from heterotopic salivary glands. Postoperative progress has been favorable for these 6 years, and no recurrence has been detected since the surgery.
