Summary:An 86-year-old woman admitted to our hospital complaining of epigastric pain. Abdominal US and CT revealed the enlargement of the common bile duct and the cystic lesion with a stone in the left lobe of the liver. PTC showed marked enlargement of the area from the left intrahepatic bile duct to the common bile duct, and transparency in the entire common bile duct. And the diagnosis of mucin-producing bile duct tumor was pronounced by PTCS. Because of her advanced age, she was treated conservatively with PTCD. As the drainage tube was frequently clogged with mucin produced by tumor, bromhexine hydrochloride was administered. As a result, the viscosity of mucin decreased and good bile duct drainage was made. Radiotheraphy treated in combination with bromhexine hydrochloride administration reduced the production of mucin to the level, and the drainage tube was able to be removed.
