Summary: | This paper explores the effect of Cambodian refugees' experience on the relation of their children in Japan. First of all, I propose a distinction between war generation and post-war generation. Then, I focus on war experience as a source of social change that defines a subjective boundary between these two generations. This subjective boundary coming from the refugee experience and resettlement process shifts from a mere difference to an exclusive one. Consequently, the difficulties posed by the ethnic minority condition are aggravated by intergenerational conflicts. |
