Summary:In this paper it is analysed the impacts of the non-linearity of a fast fluorescent optical source at 560 nm in terms of signal to noise ratio degradation in discrete multitone transmissions. The optical source has been developed at our laboratory to increase the aggregate data bit rate in wavelength division multiplexing systems over plastic optical fibre. The results have shown that even operating outside the linear region of the optical source, it is possible to increase the multi-carrier signal to noise ratio, which leads to a spectral efficiency improvement.
