| Summary: | This chapter gives an overview of the important, present, and future 5/6G technologies, of which the smart antenna is an integral part. These include the cloud-based system architecture, cell densification, increasing operating signals to millimeter (mm) electromagnetic wave techniques, massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems, beamforming, ubiquitous networks, and green communication systems. The fifth generation system requirements are also presented.
This chapter provides an overview of the requirements, important key technologies, and challenges in 5G developments. An in-depth view on the technologies that are widely used in 5G networks will be presented; including small cell densification, massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO), beamforming network, millimeter-wave, ubiquitous networks, and green communications. The important characteristics allow the industries to update the legacy of network architecture, as well as adapting the network with emerging technologies to satisfy user demand and experience. From network densification with massive number of small cells to other latest network solutions such as mm-wave and massive MIMO, all these technologies are aimed at achieving such goals. In, an optimal solution of backhaul design for SCNs is developed by taking the network requirement constraints, such as coverage and capacity, into consideration. Massive MIMO has been identified as one of the emerging technologies in 5G networks. |
