Summary:The article describes salient operational features of the thyristor voltage regulator in the medium voltage power distribution network. A two-zone alternating control of the alternating voltage thyristor regulator is proposed for application involving synchronization of the system voltage transition through a zero value. This method allows an automatic system of smooth control and stabilization of load voltage to be implemented for dramatic changes in the load current value over the intervals of positive and negative directions of the power flow. Regulators with pulse-phase control features the presence of higher harmonic components in the output voltage. Analytical expressions obtained in the system of relative units allow for calculation of the amplitude values of the first and the higher harmonic components of the voltage with two-zone sequential control. Studies based on these expressions allowed to determine the factors affecting the content of higher harmonic components. It is recommended that the transformation ratio value of the booster transformer should be selected in interval less than 0.1, subject to limitation of the harmonic components values to the level acceptable for the consumer.
