HEVC is the latest video coding standard proposed by JCT-VC. Since a lot of new techniques are adopted, the coding efficiency is about twice than previous standard H. 264. However, the encoding complexity is also increasing. In this paper, a fast algorithm for intra prediction mode is proposed to reduce the encoding time. The proposed method utilizes both video content analysis method and statistical analysis. Experimental results show that the encoding time is reduced by 30% with nearly the same bitrate and PSNR.
