Sugar in plants had many effects not only on energy metabolism, but also on the growth and development of plants, metabolic regulation and tolerance to stress. Effects of sugar accumulation, changes of related enzymes affecting sugar accumulation and exogenous ABA on sugar metabolism in plants under low temperature stress were reviewed. The mechanism of sugar metabolism response to cold stress and glucose as a signaling molecule could be studied from the genome, transcriptome, proteomics and metabonomics level.
