The main study of microbiology has begun to shift from pathogenicity to physiological function.Normal flora can not only promote the development and maturation of metabolism and the intestinal immune system,but also has a role in protecting the host against invading pathogens.However,the study of physiological and pathological functions of the intestinal flora puts higher requirements on animal models.Germ free (GF) animal has become the best animal model for the study of physiological and pathological intestinal flora functions,for it has the clear back ground of microbial and the obvious characteristics in anatomy and morphology,physiology and metabolism and immune system compared to conventional laboratory animals.This paper do a review of the following research fields:gut microflora,immune system development,metabolic disorders,drug metabolism and oncology,etc.
