The application of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt （TIPS） in the treatment of cirrhotic portal hypertension has been widely accepted both at home and abroad. This article focuses on the fatal complications of TIPS （ including intraperitoneal bleeding and a- cute pulmonary embolism） , shunt failure, and recurrent portosystemie hepatic encephalopathy, and elaborates on the reasons for such condi- tions and related preventive measures, in order to improve the accuracy and safety of intraoperative puncture, reduce common complications such as shunt failure and hepatic encephalopathy, and improve the clinical effect of TIPS in the treatment of cirrhotic portal hypertension.
