The rural homestead land management policy in China has undergone the following four stages: initial stage, de- velopment stage, exploration stage, and pilot stage. This paper analyzed the developmental characteristics of Chinese rural home- stead land management poliey at different stages, and found such symbolic words as "homestead land shall not be rented, sold or mortgaged; one homestead land each family; homestead land shall not be sold to urban residents; rights confirmation and trial" in policy documents. Finally, the author discussed the future development of rural homestead land management
