The largemouth bass（Micropterus salmoides） was introduced to China in the late 1980s,and appealed as a food source led it to became one of China’s primary cultured fish species.This paper concentrated on the advances in genetics and breeding in largemouth bass,such as geographic distribution and taxomomic status,selective breeding,crossbreeding,plyploid breeding and marker-assisted breeding.Further research priorities in this domain were also suggested.
