Summary:In this study, the authors establish the general signal model for a moving target based on the multiple-input–multiple-output radar with arbitrary transmitting waveforms and arbitrary antenna configuration. It is shown that the existing signal models are special cases of the proposed one. According to the proposed general signal model, they devise several detectors, which are based on the criteria of the generalised likelihood ratio test, Rao test, and Wald test. Numerical examples show that the detection performance varies with different transmitting waveforms and different detectors. Hence, the general signal model is useful in choosing suitable transmitting waveforms and suitable detectors for different detection tasks.
