Optical single sideband Modulation of 11-GHz RoF system using stimulated Brillouin scattering

A simple method for the generation of optical single sideband modulation of the 11-GHz radio-over-fiber system is presented. Based on stimulated Brillouin scattering in fiber, the lower sideband of the modulated signal is amplified and the upper sideband is attenuated as well, which improve the syst...

Summary:A simple method for the generation of optical single sideband modulation of the 11-GHz radio-over-fiber system is presented. Based on stimulated Brillouin scattering in fiber, the lower sideband of the modulated signal is amplified and the upper sideband is attenuated as well, which improve the system performance. In the experiment, about 2-dB signal-to-noise ratio gain is attained at 10-Mb/s signal with quadrature-phase-shift keying modulation format.
