Summary:In general, diagnosis using physical finding of the intraanal digital examination or inspection has been mainly carried out in diseases in the anal field (for example, anorectal surrounding abscess and hemorrhoids). We carried out actively transanal ultrasonography for diagnosis of this field. These diseases were further accurately diagnosed because this method is easy to performed, and its imagings can be objectively evaluated. We performed this method in 569 patients whose illnesses were diagnosed at our hospital and report the following conclusions. (1) The most favorable indication of this method was a diagnosis of an anorectal surrounding abscess. (2) The background of the therapeutic approach of the abscess was obtained by objective evaluation of this method. (3) The differential diagnosis of a tumor in the anal region was available by puncture biopsy using ultrasonography.
