Summary:The Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) is an intermediate energy, third generation light source located in Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, Shanghai. In December 2007, an electron beam was first stored and accumulated in the SSRF storage ring. Since then the accelerator commissioning and beam line installation had steadily progressed toward routine user operation in May 2009. This article presents an overview of the SSRF design, construction, commissioning and current status of its user operation.
