Summary:This paper reports on an 18-month research project to update the APM Body of Knowledge 4th edition. It reviews the role of Bodies of Knowledge in the profession, and reports on the data gathered from an extensive series of structured interviews, web questionnaire returns and drafting committee reviews. In the end APM decided that publication of the revised text should be on a phased basis so that the impact on certification curricula and other developing aspects could be managed progressively. The paper concludes by reflecting on the limitations imposed on professional institutions in the presentation of new research and practitioner based knowledge.
