Summary:Project start-up is the process of launching a project, or stage within a project, and involves both systematic process planning and effective team-building and organization. Owing to the increasing technical complexity of projects and the financial and schedule pressures, the subject is now receiving considerable interest. The papers presented at the seminar on project start-up at the 1982 Internet conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, are discussed. Current trends in project management are indicated, and it is suggested how these might influence the practice of project start-up.
