Summary: | Car Wash Party is a leisure activity organized in the streets of Port-au-Prince by the working classes. Its particularity is linked to the water games between participants and to the dress code. It emerged during the 2019 summer vacation, a period marked by popular demonstrations and public insecurity. This article proposes to understand the articulation between the production of leisure and the production of a collective space. Based on a grounded theory analysis of interviews and observational participations, results show, from the participants' point of view, how Car Wash programs, through their dimensions of inclusivity, sociability, and social reproduction, participate in the production of a collective space and the revitalization of the city of Port-au-Prince. The importance of this study is to contribute to the understanding of the production of new leisure activities in the country. |
