Summary:A statistical survey of the dermatophytes isolated at the Dermatology Clinic of Narita Red Cross Hospital during a period of 5 years from Oct. 1979 to Sept. 1984 was presented. A total of 1052 strains of dermatophytes were isolated from 1005 cases fo tinea. The isolates consisted of 715 strains (68.0%) of Trichophyton rubrum, 277 (26.3%) of T. mentagrophytes, 28 (2.7%) of Epidermophyton floccosum, 20 (1.9%) of Microsporum canis and 12 (1.1%) of M. gypseum. The prevalence of T. mentagrophytes in tinea pedis was high compared with the survey of Yorifuji et al. made at the Dermatology Clinic of Chiba University Hospital during the period from 1971 to 1978.
