Summary:Powder material fabricated by solid-state reaction process has the characteristics of large particulate size, wide size-distribution and being subject to agglomeration. To circumvent these issues, Pechini sol-gel method has firstly been utilized to synthesize the red phosphor La2CaB8O16:Eu3+. Phase identification, morphology observation and photoluminescence spectra measurement have been carried out on La2CaB8O16:Eu3+ samples. The results show that a narrow size-distribution, good dispersibility phosphor with high emission intensity can be obtained by exploiting Pechini sol-gel process. The suitable process parameters are the calcination temperature T = 900 °C, the molar ratio of citric acid to metal ion N = 1.0, and pH = 7–8 with addition of a small amount of polyethylene glycol.
